Stereology Module

  Fast and Flexible
The new AxioVision Stereology package is a software module that offers easy application of methods for parameter estimation using design-based stereology

Axio Imager

AxioVision Stereology, in combination with AxioVision 4.7x software provides a fast and flexible solution for obtaining stereological estimates.
The Stereology Module is designed primarily for use with 3D tissue sections.

The AxioVision Stereology software module allows interactive estimation of the:

1) volume of a 3D structure using the Cavalieri method
2) volume fraction and component volume of other 3D microstructures within a tissue
3) numerical density and the total number of objects within a tissue using an Optical Dissector
4) total number of objects within a tissue using an Optical Fractionator.

Cavalieri Reference Volume
This is the most commonly used and straightforward stereological method for estimating reference volume.

Volume fraction
The volume fraction of one internal structure (phase) in relation to either the reference volume or another phase can be estimated. Calculation of Volume Fraction is similar to the Cavalieri method. Additional features in this method are:

Number Estimation - Optical Dissector
This is used when the number of convex objects within a tissue is required. The total number is calculated based on an estimate of numerical density.

Number estimation - Optical Fractionator
In situations where a count of the total number of objects only is required, the optical fractionator method can be used. This is similar to the Optical Dissector method but without the need for a reference volume to be estimated.
