AxioVision FAQ's How can I change the default directories for storing archives and images? In the Tools menu select Options and look in the Folders tab. Here you can use the Modify button to change default directories.
How can I back up my images and archive? When you create a new archive a new folder with that name will be created and all of the images in that archive will be stored in that directory by default. Copy the entire contents of this folder to your back up medium – this will back up the archive and the images. To view this archive you can open the archive on the back up medium directly.
When I export a multi-channel image, how can I also export the combined pseudo-colour image? In the file menu select ‘Export’ and click on ‘create pseudocolour image’.
I have exported my images in TIFF format but when I look at them in another program they don’t look right or it doesn’t recognise them. If your images are greater than 8 bits some viewers cannot display them. When you export AxioVision images in TIFF format click on the options button and select convert to 8bpp (bits per pixel).
How can I change the size of the toolbars? Right click in the background to a toolbar and select ‘custom’ from the drop down menu. Select any toolbar and choose the button size.
I see the microscope control in the work area but I don’t have an automated microscope. How can I remove this feature? Run the microscope configuration program and select ‘other’ in the microscope field.
I’ve grabbed a Z stack and I want to use the deconvolution option but the buttons are greyed out. This may be because you are using a colour image, deconvolution only works with mono-chrome or multi-channel images. Also you must use high bit depth images 12/14 bit.
I have set up a multi-channel/time lapse/Z stack capture sequence – can I save it? Yes, select ‘save as template’ in the file menu. Then to re-use it select File – New and you will see your new template in the image list.
How can I save my personal settings? You can set up several shortcuts to AxioVision on the desk top which will start up with individual settings. Look in the AxioVision Tutorial help file under the topic ‘user specific configuration’.
How can I create my own toolbars for the functions I use most often? Right click in the background to a toolbar and select ‘customise’ from the drop down menu. Click ‘New…’, enter a name for your toolbar and hit ‘OK’. Then select the ‘Commands’ tab of the customise dialogue box and select your newly created toolbar from the left-hand drop-down list. The required commands can now be dragged from the general list on the right into the currently empty list of your toolbar, hit ‘OK’ and the toolbar is ready for use.
ZVI - Why develop yet another image format? As imaging technology has advanced so have the requirements of users and the current formats are not able to offer the flexibility required. For example if you annotate your image with a scale bar and text you need to burn this information into the image when it is stored as a TIFF file, thus the annotations can’t be removed or changed at a later date. The new ZVI format keeps all graphic information separately so that it can always be changed and the underlying image is not destroyed. ZVI format can also handle the full range of bit depths, multi-channel images and image sequences.
I can’t control my microscope from AxioVision Check the cable connection from the computer to the ‘RS232’ connector on the back of the microscope. Start the MicroToolbox program and check that the correct microscope type is selected and that the correct COM port is selected (COM1 is usually the upper and COM2 the lower port on the computer). Check that the appropriate motorised components are configured. Re-start AxioVision.
How can I change the colour and fonts for my annotations? Right click in the image and select ‘properties’. Then select the ‘attributes’ tab where you can modify the attributes of each drawn object individually.
How can I override the default font settings for annotation? To use your own ‘default’ settings first make the necessary changes using the Attributes tab of the Properties window. Now whenever you want to use these settings open the Properties window before annotating and your defaults will be applied to all new annotations. AxioVision Viewer
Can I batch convert multi-channel images? No – this facility is only available for 2D images. You have to convert multi-channel images individually.
Multi-channel image: How can I print each monochrome image and the combined pseudocolour image on the same page? In the file menu select ‘page layout’ and set the number of images. Load the multichannel image and in the window mwnu select ‘new’. This will make a copy of your image – make several copies and set each to display a different channel (or combined). Now select ‘print preview’ to see the result.
I can’t use the print preview. You must have at least one printer driver loaded.
Can I view the full archive? No – you can only load individual images. How do I save my images in other formats (e.g. TIFF)? Select ‘export’ from the file menu. Look in the ‘common’ tab to set options. |
